We were off walkabout last week, so we missed making our guesses for Round 16 of the Toyota 2019 AFL Premiership competition.
Looking at the outcomes, there were two games we would have missed with absolute certainty. The Hawks beating the Pies and the Dogs beating the Cats were outcomes that defy logic.
We probably would have missed another by taking GWS to beat Brisbane and we continue to back Adelaide out of sentiment.
Some of the other Round 16 games would have amounted to the guess-iest of guesses, so it is on to Round 17.
One of the bookies have West Coast as 17.5-point favourites agasint Collingwood at Optus Stadium. Collingwood has been shaky, but we will take the Magpies to deliver as our upset pick of the week.
Sydney is hosting Carlton in Sydney. We have vowed never to back the Blues, so we take the Swans, wondering only why the line is just 22.5 points to Sydney, until we recall that Carlton came within a major of beating Melbourne last week.
The traveling to Tasmania belongs to Hawthorn versus Fremantle. The Hawks are favoured by 15.5, so we will go with them, even though we suspect that the Dockers might be anxious to atone for last week’s sledging in the Perth Derby.
The coin flip tip is the game between the Bombers and the Roos. Anyone’s guess is as good or better than ours is, but we fancy Essendon.
The Crows should be able to manage a win by some margin over the Suns.
Taking Geelong over St. Kilda seems like a sure thing, but we are not sure why we say that, as our sure things are anything but.
The Giants at The G to play Richmond is an important game for both clubs. The line favours the Tigers by 13.5, so we select Richmond.
Brisbane will tour the Adelaide Oval to play Port. The Power are favoured by 9.5, but we are taking the Lions, simply because they are two rungs higher.
