We did all right with our fantasy guessing for Round 7 of the Toyota 2019 AFL Premiership competition.
We risked a hypothetical $100 on each of the nine games and we successfully picked the winners of seven of those games.
Since we are naturally prone to the sort of cynicism that would make us subject to severe penalties is we were Super Rugby players, we have to say that if it were real money involved, the AFL would have flipped on its head to make our punts wrong.
We earned $983 in dividends, which combined with the $700 in returned stakes, works out to $1,683. Subtract the $200 on the two games we got wrong and we are left with a $1483 gross for the round.
Pay heed to our use of “gross,” as bookmaker margins would have taken a sizeable chunk from our winnings.
Our lucky pick for the week was Melbourne to beat Hawthorn.
Our major brain fade was to back Carlton over North Melbourne. Only the fact that it was the Roos swayed us to back the Blues.
Our other miss was Richmond losing to Western Bulldogs. The goings on in Tiger Land have us baffled.
Here are our guesses for Round 8. Once again, we need to point out that if you follow us, you may find yourself up the wrong creek without any sort of propulsion method.
Essendon over Sydney for a possible $152. Collingwood to beat the Blues for $108. Thanks, generous bookies.
Western Bulldogs are favoured over Brisbane at Mars. Are we daft, or are the bookies on Mars? Lions for a possible $224.
Melbourne over Gold Coast for $138.
West Coast plays St. Kilda at Melbourne. Hmmm. We’ll take the Eagles for $152.
Adelaide bragging rights are up for grabs when Port and the Crows grace the Adelaide Oval. Our clueless guess is Adelaide for $172.
Geelong over North Melbourne for $130.
Fremantle is hosting Richmond at Optus. We pick the Dockers for a potential $172.
