This is normally our weekly forum for our AFL guesses during the home-and-away season.
We stake an imaginary $100 per game and most weeks have seen us profitable, although we find it necessary to repeat that no one should trust our tips. We make hypothetical wagers only on head-to-head outcomes.
Were we staking actual money, we could rake in a fortune simply by telling subscribers to take the opposite bets to ours, as with real skin in the game, we would make some bad tips routinely.
For the upcoming Grand Final, we are selecting GWS, even though they are 18.5-point unders to Richmond and playing on the Tigers’ home ground. GWS faced a similar predicament in the preliminary final with the Magpies and managed to win, so we cannot view our tip as entirely forlorn. Besides, we love the underdog story and for GWS to make the Grand Final after finishing sixth seems to fit the bill nicely.
It is a tough pick to go against Richmond and we hope that the AFL does not put a ringer at the wheel of the GWS van to the game, send them to Marvel Stadium and give Richmond a walkover, but rooting for the Tigers feels like rooting for Collingwood, if not worse.
Richmond have not lost in 14-day matches at MCG dating back to 2018, so we will once again raise the cry for the AFL Grand Final to be played on a neutral ground.
Make Richmond earn it.
We are not Victorian bias conspiracy theorists; at least we are not until Richmond find cap space during the off-season and bring Nat Fyfe into the fold for the 2020 season.
We do remain hopeful that MCG will not run out of food and beverages for the game, as had been the case during the opening weekend of the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan.
