Any reports that a recent round of casual golf between Tiger Woods, Dustin Johnson, Brad Faxon and U.S. President Trump was won by any other than Trump are simply fake news and nothing more.
The true news is that several players who have taken the course with Woods recently report that his swing is as good as ever, but more importantly, Woods is free from pain and shows no trepidation in hitting any of his repertoire of shots.
Woods will return to competition following his fourth back surgery.
He will play in a limited field in the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas. His first round of competitive golf in almost a year will find him paired with PGA Tour player of the year Justin Thomas.
Thomas lives near Woods in Florida and the two practice together from time to time. Thomas told the Associated Press, “People are going to be shocked at how good his game looks.
Faxon, in a story published by Golfweek, had similar remarks.
“Tiger looked great to me,” Faxon said. “I was impressed with how far he hit the ball. Probably on the 10 holes that they were both hitting driver, Tiger hit it past Dustin half the time and Dustin hit it past Tiger half the time. He looked great. I think more than anything, he looked at ease. He was not concerned about swinging hard and going at it with driver. The ball flight, the sound off the club, all of it was right there.”
Dustin Johnson is one of the true bombers in the game and consistently at or near the top of the driving distance statistics. Asked if Faxon’s story was true, he said, “He (Woods) hit it by me a couple of times. Did I bomb one and he hit it past me? No. But he did it past me a few times. He was moving it, though.”
Woods, Johnson and Faxon, cognizant of the fact that in the U.S., it was recently Thanksgving, expressed gratitude that The Donald does not seem interested in abandoning his post as Poohbah to play golf full time, lest they be compelled to fight over the scraps.
