We had another good week guessing the outcomes of Round 18 of the Toyota 2019 AFL Premiership competition.
Seven of our nine picks were correct. The Crows failed to beat Essendon at Adelaide Oval for one of our errors. That one was not too difficult to accept, as neither the Crows nor the Bombers seem to supply anything that resembles consistency.
The one that really stuck in our craw was Geelong beaten somewhat decisively by Hawthorn.
GWS delivered a nice pile of cash by beating Collingwood. The big haul came from backing St. Kilda to beat Western Bulldogs. We had Fremantle for the match with Sydney and that one was much too close for comfort.
With the return of the $100 stakes for each of the correct picks, plus the dividends from the right punts, we took in $1,877 for or fantasy bets. This figure does not account for bookie fees.
Here is how we see Round 19.
Straight off, Collingwood and Richmond at MCG is a riddle wrapped in an enigma and surrounded by a conundrum. The flip of our two-headed coin provided no insight. Our bookie have Richmond favoured by 9.5-points, but we are taking the Pies and hope they do not get baked by the blackbirds. Our potential windfall is $245.
Form team Hawthorn will play Brisbane in Tasmania. They are favoured by 1.5-points, but we take the Lions for $193.
The Crows will be in Melbourne to play Carlton at MCG. We will make it another attempt to predict an upset and back the Blues for $250, even though Adelaide are favoured by 11.5.
The Roos are traveling to Optus to play West Coast. Like Brisbane, the Eagles can smell the weakness of Geelong. They are favoured by 18.5, so we take West Coast in the chase for $135.
St Kilda versus Melbourne is one we would gladly skip, but the Dees are favoured by 3.5, but still offer $177, so we take the sinners over the Saints.
Port is hosting GWS, but the Giants are favoured by 4.5, so we take them for the generous $172 they will provided from an accurate $100 punt.
Fremantle are coming to the big city to play Western Bulldogs. The Dogs are favoured by 11.5. We think a healthy Fremantle is the better team of the two and while Freo are anything but, we are taking them for a return of $240.
